HISTORY
Island Solta was first time mentioned as Olyntha in 4th century. On island were found remains of old settlements from Prehistory. Island was many times attacked in 13th, 14th and 15th century by Omis and Venetia. Island Solta was inhabitated by refugees. It has many monuments and rich historical heritage.
CULTURE AND ATTRACTIONS
Island Solta has around 1500 inhabitants that are mostly directed to vine-growing, olive growing, fishing, agriculture and tourism.
In Gornje Selo is tomb with inscription â?žfor passengersâ??. It is for unknown passengers who died on island Solta.

LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Solta (Central Dalmatia, Croatia) is an island located in Croatian region Central Dalmatia. It has area of 52 km2. It is situated west from island Brac, around 15 km far from Split. Between Split and island Solta is Split`s Canal. Tourist destinations on island Solta are: Necujam, Stomorska, Rogac, Grohote, Gornje Selo (Upper Village), Donje Selo (Lower Village), Srednje Selo (Middle Village) and Maslinica.
Highest peak on island Solta is at Gornje Selo, 237 m high. Climate on island Solta is Mediterranean with long and warm summers, and cold winters with winds bora and scirocco. Island Solta is 19 km long and 5 km wide. It is developed of sediment rocks and limestone. Island Solta has rich vegetation consisted of holm oak, macchia, grassland, nettles, aromatic and healthy herbs... On island Solta you can see many birds, owls, pheasants, hawks, rabitts, fishes, crabs, shells, dolphins...
Necujam is located on east side of island Solta. It is the youngest settlement on island. It is most beautiful bay on island. It is connected with Split with ferries. Necujam has largest beach on island Solta. The beach has many contents such as table tennis, rent a boat, showers, fast-food...
Grohote is the largest settlement on island Solta, located in the middle of east coast of island. Grohote is natural, cultural and economy center of island Solta.
Stomorska is located south from Necujam on east coast of island Solta. It is located in the bottom of hill of the Lady of Stomorija. Main beach is in the center and it is pebble beach.
Rogac is located east from Grohote. It is main port of the island. It is connected with Split with ferries. Beach in Rogac is called Banje.
